SMTP PROBLEM :

Policy Violation « Your computer might be infected with a virus »

When you receive this SMTP error message, this means that your IP Address is banned for 24 hours due to one of the following problems :

  • Your IP Address is sending massive SPAM or UBE (more than 50 traps in the last 24h).
  • Your IP Address is sending BACKSCATTER (more than 20 traps in the last 24h).

SPAM / UBE / UCE

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services.

Spam is often caused by a virus, a trojan or malware within your network.

An misconfigured mailserver (eg: open-relay problem) can also be a well-known cause of sending out spam.

Backscatter

Backscatter is incorrect automated bounce messages sent by mail servers, typically as a side effect of incoming spam.

Recipients of such messages see them as a form of unsolicited bulk email or spam since they were not solicited by the recipients, are substantially similar to each other and are delivered in bulk quantities. Systems that generate email backscatter can end up being listed on various DNSBLs and be in violation of internet service providers' Terms of Service.

Backscatter occurs because worms and spam messages often forge their sender address, and mailservers configured by naive administrators send a bounce message to this address.

You can avoid backscatter by performing recipient validation on the front MTA and reject e-mail to non-existing mailboxes instead of accepting the message for later delivery and afterwards sending a non-delivery reports (NDR’s).

Banned IP removal

Your IP Address will be automatically removed from our ip block after 24 hours. Please note that you risk to be blocked again if the issue is not being solved. When the issue is not being solved and regular identical IP bans are detected, your IP Address might be banned permanently.
